enough was enough
the Mother Nature contemplated
and kept the sunshine to herself
enough was enough
the Mother Nature contemplated
and kept the sunshine to herself
Ah! How I love my fifties
My looks are good enough for me
And
I don’t need male glances
To tell me
I am beautiful
soaring waves
embracing the parched sands
the way you engulfed me
look at you
all glowing and radiant
you are beautiful
beauty unsurpassed
not much of a gift
more of a ruination
when it fades
beauty becomes a curse
for
it is difficult
to let the glory go
the mirror does not lie
just like your soul
age has come girl
gone are your days of glory
in the eyes of others
but
“you” remain
your best friend
love yourself
respect your body
and go on
to live a life of fulfilment
let’s us support
all womanhood
by celebrating
our beauty our success and old age
for
when physical beauty fades
we are at the risk
of being sidelined
and life passes by
I beseech,
I implore thee
you may not
treat me like a queen
but
the wish to be respected
as a human
is my birthright
I repeatedly
Look into the stained mirror
Above
The sink
At my workplace
And
Into the car rear view mirror
Into
The sunglasses
My daughter wears
Reflections
Caught in the
Shop windows
But
I see
What I am
An ageing woman
Whose youth
Is
Now dwindling
And
The silhouettes
Too
Don’t favour her
Anymore
