kurta collar

The small floral buttons on the kurta are delightful.

It has been a task always to add variety to my winter wear.

Here I am wearing a long silk kurta, with paisley print. The brown color gives a nice change from black and greys. On top , i am wearing a long brown sweater with collars. The richness of silk adds sophistication. There is not much need of accessories, if the material is nice.

The kurta has collars which I have buttoned up.

A nice comfortable wear for work.

Enjoy!

How to Wear Pants with Dresses.

Standard

Hi there! It is that time of the year again when the chill sets in. Now I am a great lover of a longish silhouette. But in winters you need to keep warm also. So how do I pair my dresses with pants?

http://www.collegefashion.com

This was a look for the youngsters.

For my age here it is…

40plusstyle.com

Pairing dresses with tights is also a smart option. Try and go for shoes in the same color as the pant or you can wear nude shoes too.

The safest option is to wear black pants or leggings with black boots. This gives an impression of length.

Add a scarf for warmth.

The best part of this look is that it hides flab and is super comfy.

I hope to rock this look this winter.

ENJOY!

Black and White Scarf.

Standard

Hi folks ! Winter time is all about wrapping yourself in layers. What better than a scarf. I have already talked about adding drama by wearing black and white. I am a huge fan of this combination, as it adds a lot of drama instantly. Here is my favorite black and white scarf. It can be worn with an all black outfit.

Bright lips and nails complete the look.

Shrug Madness.

Standard

I had to get up early today morning for a class I had to take. As I stepped out ,there was a blast of cold wind. I shuddered. Instantly I thought of my various drapes and shrugs, and decided to pull them out of my wardrobe as soon as I reached home.

So here are my collection of shrugs. All of them are long and cover the hip,a must at my age and with my profession.(I am a professor teaching in a medical; college)

drapes blue

drapes brown

drapes black

The blue ones are from Benetton.

The grey ones are from Marks and Spencers.

The rest I picked up from Hong Kong, when I visited it last year.

I team them up with absolutely anything. The fall is good and sleek, and they are excellent for layering.

Such drapes are a must for a winter capsule wardrobe.

Next I shall continue with my collection of shawls and drapes.

ENJOY!

P.S. Please excuse the picture quality. Still don’t know how to use the DSLR very well.Trying hard.

LONG KURTA WITH PYJAMAS.

Standard

Hi folks! Now that I have introduced you to the indian wear terminology,I am going to go ahead and show how the demure kurta can be worn.

Here I am wearing a printed pakistani print kurta with black cotton pyjamas. the pyjamas are slightly above ankles and the kurta is quite long.

I wore this while traveling. It is comfortable and looks fresh.Got a lot of compliments for this outfit.

The length of the kurta gives a slimming effect.

A nice wear  for fall.

You can wear heels with this outfit, but I wore flats, as I wanted to travel in comfort. The nude color goes with everything, so I had to pack less.

My silver neckpiece from Jaipur, is an all time favorite of mine.

My whole outfit except the accessories, costed just INR 4500(shoes included)

ENJOY!

Tomboy Chic.

Standard

Comfortable fashion is what I always root for. On top of that if its chic, classy and easy to put together,it is absolutely great. Here I am talking about Tomboy Chic.

Raid your brothers or boyfriends wardrobe for key pieces.

SHIRTS. Be it checks, stripes or plain, guy’s shirts have a nice feel to them. Wear them open buttoned with a vest or tie the loose ends in a knot for that interesting look.

OVERSIZED DENIMS. These look amazing provided you hold them up with nice broad belts.

SHOES. Go all manly with Brogues and Lace-ups.

WATCHES. Have to be big and bold .

victoriapassion.com

GRAPHIC TIES.  Give a nice quirky look.

http://www.zazzle.com

PERFUMES. Wear a manly scent to go all the way.

SURPRISE ELEMENT. Wear cuff links if you dare.

SUNGLASSES. Steal his sunglasses. It helps that oversized glasses are in vogue too.

So this season be different and comfortable in androgynous clothing.

The Traveling Fashionista.

Standard

Chic comfy traveling fashion is what we all desire. Now this is a simple guide on fashion while actually you are on the move! Once you reach your destination , these strict rules can be relaxed a little.
Right from shoes. to your hair, small things matter that make your trip comfortable and make you look chic and hep at the same time.

THE SHOES

Wear flats obviously with a great sole that has a good grip. Closed shoes are a must as that prevents all the dirt from getting to your feet. You can go with good sports shoes, but for me I like nude ballerinas with a good sole. They are easy to slip on and off, look good and go with everything. You can also wear nice sport shoes with a great arch.

LOWERS.

My latest fashion fixation is pajama pants. With an elastic waistband and loose fit they are oh so comfy. No buttons no zippers ….pure bliss. The best part is that they come in all types of fabrics now including denim.

http://www.washingtonian.com

UPPERS.

Need. I say much about that? Any upper in a wrinkle free fabric, dark colors, comfortable fit …that’s it. I prefer carrying a stylish stole for those oh so cold airports. Also u can have a good snooze inside it.

MAKE-UP.

Moisturize moisturize moisturize…that and a nude makeup which is mainly concealer based. That looks the best. A light colored gloss and u r good to go. Dont forget a waterproof mascara to make your eyes look wide open and awake. I personally like to add color with the help a rose tinted blusher. ( Again , the pics!!!)

Dont forget the mini makeup must haves.Refer:

HAIR.

Freshly washed ,neatly tied is the way to go. I prefer a blow dry before setting out as it gives me neat look and stays for a long time. That is also important as we need to look good in photographs too:)

CARRY IT ALL BAG.

Carry a cross sling bag for comfort ,with a lot of zipper pockets for safety. Carry a black or a brown bag in n faux leather so that it is easy on maintenance. Multiple zippers ensure compartmentalization and make it easy to locate your stuff.

ACCESSORIES.

Wear a simple yet chic neck-piece that can easily be removed . I don’t wear earrings as I find them uncomfortable, bot if you must wear ones with a clasp so that they don’t poke you while you doze off while traveling.

A simple watch with a metal strap is all that you need. Don’t overdo the accessories. Wear just one classy , comfortable piece.

Wardrobe woes…How to manage a working girls closet.

Standard

That is a universal problem I bet. Every morning staring at my overflowing wardrobe and at the same time staring at the watch ,has become the norm. I am sure the same is true for most of us.I had to device a quick fix for that , so that I don’t leave home exhausted. Following is my easy to do mantra.

1) Have a capsule wardrobe.

Focus on buying good quality staple pieces that never go out of fashion. These may differ from person to person . My capsule wardrobe is as follows:

Nude or beige upper.

A white shirt or top.

Black uppers.

Black lowers.

Navy lowers.

Little black dress.

A nice black trench coat.

A pair of beige flats.

A pair of silver flats.

A pair of ballet flats.

A pair of black pumps.

A pair of boots.

A daily wear neck piece.

A statement necklace.

A pair of studs in silver and gold. I have diamond earrings in gold. They go mostly with everything.

Silver and gold hoops for the evening.

A pair of chandelier earrings.

A black and a multicolored stole.

A nice diamante watch.

Morning Clutch or tote in nude.

Evening Clutch in black and gold.( black goes with silver outfits too)

http://www.styletheluxe.com

2) Plan in advance for the whole week.

I do that most of the time. If possible ,I do plan what I have to wear each day of the week on Sunday. It saves my time and the mornings are less hurried. I also decide the accessories if they are going to be different for some particular outfit. Mostly I change my neck-pieces, but my bag and slippers remain the same during the day, at least for one week.

3) Try your outfits beforehand.

Now this has saved me many a time from being embarrassed because of a zipper gone wrong or for instance  a tear on my leggings. Sometimes you can improvise your outfit if you try it beforehand.

4) Have an inventory.

This is applicable if you have too many key pieces like I do. I also write down the various looks I can create with my staple pieces. Again I save a lot of time because of this.

5) Have your ”must have” make up kit ready and and updated.

Also keep your evening and night make up items separate from your daily essentials. Things like shimmery eye shadow, illuminator and dark blushers should be in a separate kit.

6)  Have some items to add drama to your outfit always at hand.

A blingy necklace, a cocktail ring, a quirky bag are some ideas of adding some drama to your attire.

7) Red lipstick

Another instant pick me up essential. My personal favorite is M.A.C. Russian Red Matte.

It adds enough drama to make heads turn.

So girl, get going and plan your capsule wardrobe.

Till next time…

xoxo.

Clutch it!

Standard

I am majorly into big oversized clutches nowadays. They are chic, good looking and oh so comfortable. Add to it the health benefits. No  shoulder straps cutting into your shoulders. No backache. But what about the must haves a girl has to carry? I do have a remedy for that !!!! First the latest clutches in the market nowadays.
MORNING CLUTCHES
Yes girl, you heard me right. I have ditched the oversized tote for an oversized clutch. Day clutches have to be big, with multiple zipper pockets and  of a neutral color. They should have separate pockets for keys, specs, money and make up. For a working girl it is super comfy to just hold a bag under your arm and go in or out your workplace in a jiffy and inconspicuously.

This nude Zara bag is my all time favorite.
Ooh I love them. They look awesome and  are so comfy. Always have a clutch with pockets. It helps in compartmentalizing your stuff.

Clutches with zippers

A very comfortable option. Compact and easy to carry, these clutches also don’t let your stuff slip out.

Dont miss the awesome compartments!

This oversized travel clutch is a winner.

Nude is the new black.

Always remember to have the clutches in  a soft material ….its all about comfortable fashion after all.

Quirky is in. So a dull plain outfit can be spruced up by a quirky printed clutch…

or a pop colored one.

EVENING CLUTCHES

Evening and night is definitely about a little glamour .So my lovelies here comes the bling. Silver, copper or gold , take your pick. You can also carry colored shimmery clutches for extra drama. Not to forget the jewelled ones for a more elaborate function.

The boxy clutches are less roomy but look great when going for an elite dinner or cocktail.Stick to a basic black or gold.

A loud shimmery clutch can prep up an otherwise dull outfit.

So enough on clutches for now! Next I will post on how to fit your essentials into these wonderful, comfortable fashion accessories.

Till then…
